You do not require a referral to book an appointment. However, if you have a referral from a GP, paediatrician, or psychiatrist, you may be eligible to claim a Medicare rebate for your sessions.
Depending on your presenting concerns, Medicare may provide rebates for up to 6–10 sessions per calendar year. If you attend under a referral, we are required to provide progress reports to your referring doctor following the initial consultation, after the 6th session, and after the 10th session.
To continue receiving Medicare rebates beyond the 6th session, you need to return to your doctor for a review and re-referral. Please note that a rebate cannot be claimed for the 7th session without an updated referral.
Parents may also access up to two parent-only sessions, which are counted as part of their child’s allocated referral sessions.

We understand that every family situation is unique. To ensure we act in your child’s best interests and meet our professional obligations, we require consent from both parents before commencing services in most circumstances.
If parents are separated and there are no court or parenting orders in place, both parents are generally considered to have parental responsibility. In these circumstances, we require consent from both parents before seeing your child.
Usually, we will obtain consent from the parent making the enquiry first and then ask for the other parent's contact details so we can contact them directly. We recommend letting the other parent know that you are seeking psychological support for your child before making an appointment.
If there are any court orders, parenting orders, family violence orders, or other legal documents relevant to your child's care, please provide copies before the first appointment. If these arrangements change at any time, please let us know as soon as possible.
